I Love You Quilt Card
There is a story and a
quilt that can be made from this design.
Take any quilt design and make a normal single fold card.
Materials
There are two ways to create this card.
- Computer - Print the design on the outside front cover of the card and print
The "I love you" story in the center.
- Manual - provide paper and materials for the children to create the card.
You can improve the quality of the card by using specialty and textured paper.
Instructions
- For manually created cards draw a blank design on the front.
The heart squares are 1 inch x 1 inch and the outer edge is 5 inches square.
- Fold the card in half.
- Let children decorate.
Activity |
This craft is suitable for mother's day, valentine's day, baby shower and for the "I love you" quilt.

Stickers
|
Age Groups |
Over 12 use stickers or cut paper and glue
Under 12: Use stickers and glue stick
|
|
All the cards are made by printing or pasting both halves of the design on
letter sized card stock paper and then folding it.
# | Fold | Paper Size | Center "a" | Side "b" | Fold "c" | Height | Pop-Up |
1 | Single | 8.5 x 11 | - | 5.5 | - | 8 | Yes |
2 | Double | 8.5 x 11 | 5.5 | 2.75 | - | 8 | No |
8.5 x 14 | 7 | 3.5 | - | 8 | No |
3 | Four | 8.5 x 14 | 5 | 2.5 | 2 | 5 | No |
- Single Fold. Normal card. Print design on the front cover and a message and design in the center.
Fold paper in half to (8.5 x 5.5).
You can also make this a pop-up card.
- Double Fold. Use letter size paper (8.5 x 11).
The center is half the width of the paper and both sides are a quarter of the width.
The design is printed on both ends. Then the card is folded.
A pop-up can be done at each fold but it is not recommended since the area is very small.
- Four Fold. Use legal size paper (8.5 x 14). Make the length of the card about five inches.
If legal size paper is used then the entire design can be cut from the paper.
This gives the design a three dimensional effect because it is folded.
A pop-up can be done at each fold but it is not recommended since the area is very small.
Design Your Own
Choose a design that can be divided in two.
Or choose a pair of designs that go together.
Exodus Example.
- Left Side. A wall of water with the foam and the flow going left. Moses.
- Right Side. A wall of water with the foam and the flow going right. Chariot
- Back. Print the story
- Inside Center. Water on each side. A path in the center with people walking through.

Variation
There are several ways to create three dimensional or "Pop-up" pictures.
Some shapes are made on a flat surface, others require that the object crosses over a bend in the paper.
Flat Surface Objects.
- Raised Levels. Glue a stiff piece of cardboard or foam or other thick object on the surface.
It must be narrower than the object.
Glue the object on top of this base.
- Flaps and Pockets.
- Tent. This can be used to make an object stand up. The two sides of an animal can be glued to each side.
You can also fold the paper in two and cut out all parts of the object except the top.
When it is opened to form a tent shape it will be two sides of the object joined at the top
- Motion. Make an object move.
Folded Paper Objects. Fold background paper in half. Good technique for cards.
- Tabs. Fold paper in half and cut straight lines along dotted lines.
- Coil. These are the instructions for a snake.
- Draw coiled snake on paper that is not larger than the surface of the folded paper (Four inches square).
- Cut snake along dotted lines.
- Place coiled snake on right side of paper. Make sure it does not cross the center fold.
- Glue bottom of head to right side of paper.
- Place glue on top of the tip of the tail. Close card, press, and wait until the glue dries.
- The tail will be glued to the left side.
- Moving Mouth. Paste an animal around the moving mouth.
Preparation
Card stock for pop-up
- Fold in half and cut along opening.
- Fold along edges of triangle (edges of mouth).
- Cut out animals, or print on paper for children (older than 10) to cut out.
- Use the eyes to make the animal male or female
Materials
- Pop up center card
- Paper lining on the back of the card will appear in the opening of the mouth and the outside of the card
- Animal cut out that is around the mouth
- Glue stick
Instructions
- For manually created cards draw a blank design on the front.
The heart squares are 1 inch x 1 inch and the outer edge is 5 inches square.
- Fold the card in half.
- Let children decorate.

Place leaves on these and around the edge of the plate until a realistic scene is made.
- Add flowers
- Add butterfly. Glue only one half or the center of the butterfly to create the dimensional effect.
Variations.
The scenery can be viewed from any side or you can create a definite front view.

In front of this background will be your scenery.

You can make different boxes by substituting a different shape here.
These can be the two halves of one shape or two related pictures. e.g. A whale and a ship from the story of Jonah.
Tuxedo Box.
- Closure Slot. This slot must be reinforced before it is cut.
Instructions
- Create the box manually or with Powerpoint.
- Print design and messages on back and front of card.
If the back is also decorated it must be perfectly aligned with the front.
Write bible verses on the sides and flaps. Print appropriate images or give stickers to decorate open spaces.
- Ark of the covenant. The inside contains pictures of all the items that were in the ark.
Print each commandment on the sides and inside flap. Quote 1 Corinthians 13 on love.

- Cut the bottom half of the puppet figure and glue it to the section of the paper bag that it under the fold
created by the bag (Section "B" in the picture).
- Decorate the puppet by adding eyes, tongue and other interesting features.
- For example, put a fly in the mouth of a paper bag frog.

Use card stock or regular colored paper for the internal pages.
Use card stock for pop-up pages.
Stickers or cut out shapes to decorate the inside.

Creation Book
This book is created with a combination of six sheets of paper that form the background of the story.
Each sheet makes four pages.
The paper is assembled in the following order.
- Card stock paper for front and back cover.
- Black (pages 1, 2, 19, 20) - represents the darkness in the beginning and the darkness after sin entered the world.
- Light blue (pages 3, 4, 17, 18) - Sky, sea and land.
- Dark blue (pages 5, 6, 15, 16) - Sun, moon and stars, animals and man.

- With carefully designed animals, cutting these pages in half to "create" new animals from the combination of the top and
bottom half of each animal. See an example with this game.
- Use a computer to print the story on the pages.
If you are going to "create" new animals print markers for positioning and cutting the animals. Print the names of the animals vertically so that when the page is cut the new animal will have a new name.
The pictures must be aligned properly and the names must be separated at the vowel - with the bottom half of the name having the vowel. Cut pages 7 - 14 (The Animals).
Make sure the new name does not form an inappropriate word.
